Rather than busy, multi-slotted shelving units, a single, deep square shadow box made from aged, character-rich reclaimed timber creates a deliberate frame for a single treasured object. The frame itself becomes part of the art piece.
- How to make it: Mitre-cut four pieces of weathered barn wood or reclaimed teak to form a square box. Fasten the corners using hidden pocket-hole screws or spline joints. Mount the box flush to the wall using heavy-duty keyhole hangers embedded into the back frame.
- Tips and variations: Keep the interior completely empty except for one sculptural ceramic vase or an antique hourglass. The negative space inside the box is what makes the design truly minimalist.
