13. The Haunted Mansion Portrait Gallery
Recreate the eerie elegance of a classic haunted house with a Victorian-style portrait gallery. Cover the door in a dark, patterned wallpaper-style paper, like a deep red damask. Cut out several ornate, gothic frames from black cardstock. Inside each frame, place lenticular “shifting” portraits that change from a normal person to a spooky ghoul when viewed from different angles, or have students draw their own transforming portraits. Add artificial cobwebs, plastic spiders, and a flickering LED battery-operated candle mounted to the door. A elegant sign at the top should read, “Welcome to the Haunted Mansion of Fifth Grade… Enter If You Dare!”
