13. Grim Reaper Garden Border
Add a sense of silent, guarding presence to your garden borders with a series of faceless Grim Reapers. These figures are incredibly effective because they rely on the viewer’s imagination to fill in the terrifying details. Construct simple, tall T-bar frames from wood or PVC pipe and drape them in heavy, textured black landscape fabric or burlap that has been treated to withstand the weather. Shape the fabric to form deep, empty hoods where the faces should be, ensuring the interior remains entirely pitch black.
Position these figures at regular intervals along your garden fence, emerging from behind tall shrubs, or standing sentinel along the edge of a woodland path. Because they have no visible faces or limbs, they look like silent, ominous shadows watching over the garden. Use low-angle, green or purple ground spotlights to silhouette the figures, making them stand out starkly against the night sky.
